The Wyldwood Dowsing Pendulum

This was a very interesting, and rewarding piece to work on.
A friend approached me one day and asked if I could help him make something a reality. He told me that he had seen a strange device in a dream and wanted to bring it into the physical world. He even went as far as to research the stone that was at the heart of the piece. The name of the stone escapes me for the moment, but the gentleman in question found a piece and had it cut and shaped into a disc before sending it to me.
The brief was an odd one. He had seen the artefact in a dream and knew that it was some sort of dowsing pendulum but did not know what it was used to dowse for. He only knew that when it found its target the rings around the stone would start to move of their own volition while the stone and frame stayed still. Also, the whole thing had to be made of phosphorous bronze.
Although we agreed that the pendulum would not work exactly as he had seen in his dream, I could get somewhere close.
The rings in the finished piece were balanced in such a way that even the slightest breath could give them motion.
