The brief for this commission included several elements of design criteria.
The client asked that the blade be the same shape as an Anglo-Saxon Seax. She also asked to include a cat motif as she had pet cats that were very dear to her. Oak had to feature heavily in the design, hence the oak handle and copper oak tree and oak leaf decorations on the grip. Finally, the blade should bear the phrase “Oak, Ash and Thorn” in Ogham Script along its spine.
All of these design elements came together in a way that made the client very happy with the end result.
